Michael Schumacher says Lewis Hamilton’s news helped him making retirement decision – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has said that the news of the contract which Lewis Hamilton, who is presently in McLaren, has signed with the Brackley based team for 2013 has really helped him in making his retirement decision.
Schumacher has recently announced at Suzuka that he is going to take retirement at the end of the current season following the news of Hamilton’s move in Mercedes as his replacement in the next year.
Even though, the seven-time world champion has been linked with Sauber team but he has asserted that he doesn’t feel fully encouraged for the sport and is not looking forward to secure a race seat in any team in the coming year.
Furthermore, he said that when the Silver Arrows confirmed that they are going to take the British driver in the team, the decision about his retirement became too easy for him. He also said that he is not feeling upset over his retirement as he is very
happy with his overall accomplishments in his career until now.
“The special moment, in a way, is that the team had found an option with Lewis and that sort of helped me find that decision,” he said. “Obviously there was an option for me to do so at an earlier stage and I was in the picture when the negotiations were
going on, but I didn't want to decide and I wasn't sure about myself. Sometimes in life your destiny will develop by itself.”
“I was always informed by the team so I knew what was going on and I'm quite happy that things have developed in this direction,” he added.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn has said that the veteran German driver is unquestionably the greatest racing driver of this century after the news of his retirement.
Brawn has been with the iconic driver during all his seven world championships and has paid tribute to the legend for all his contributions towards the team. Besides, he has said that the 43-year-old will surely have a key role in any of their future success.
