McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says Fernando Alonso of Ferrari is leading his team – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has said that the two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso is leading Ferrari and admitted that the Spaniard is one of the three best drivers in the sport currently.
“Fernando is very talented and is fully supported by his team. The whole team supports and follows him. It is he who leads Ferrari. I'm not saying it's good or bad, it's just the route they have chosen,” said Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton knows Alonso very well as the two drivers drove together as teammates at McLaren back in 2007. Other than that, the 2008 Formula 1 world champion stated that Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg are the other two good drivers on the grid at the
moment. He added that Rosberg could make an impression in the sport if he is given the right car.
“We all believe we are the best and that's what you have to do, unless you like to finish second. [The best] are Alonso, Vettel and Rosberg - who I've known since I was 13. He [Rosberg] is about to burst through and he will at any time. Sebastian is in a
great period with Red Bull and has a lot of confidence,” said the McLaren driver.
Alonso has been named as one of the best drivers in the history of the sport mainly because of his versatility as he has driven in almost all sorts of teams and proved that he has the ability to shape things according to his likings in the best possible
way.
During his time with Minardi, he scored some pretty impressive results with the team keeping in mind that they were one of the back running teams of the sport at that time. After that, Renault decided to sign the Spaniard and that decision paid off as Alonso
scored his first championship two years later giving the team its first title as well.
The Spaniard secured the title for another year and these two titles were a huge achievement for him as he defeated Michael Schumacher in his primetime- something no one else was able to do for 5 years in the sport.
