Mark Gillian: Mechanics worked hard to rebuild Senna’s car for Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that the team’s mechanics worked very hard to rebuild the car of their driver, Bruno Senna for 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 10.
Senna had an accident during the second free Friday practice session of the Canadian GP due to which his car’s gearbox and the both the front and rear wings were damaged. Nonetheless, Gillan said that they provided the Mexican driver with an entirely restored
car with the most recent specifications for the race.
“Both of Bruno's Friday sessions had issues, with the first session being compromised by not being able to use his DRS system and in the second session he had an accident which damaged three corners on the car, the front and rear wings and the gearbox. The
mechanics worked very hard on Friday evening to rebuild the car and we had enough spares to ensure that his car remained to the latest specification and was ready for the beginning of the Saturday morning session,” he said.
Although, the mechanics repaired Senna’s car, however, he struggled during the qualifying and could only secure 16th grid position and came 17th in the race.
On the other hand, his teammate, Pastor Maldonado also had an accident as a result of which his gearbox was damaged which influenced his qualifying performance very badly. Even though, the Venezuelan driver tried his best to secure a competitive position
in the race but he could not be able to score even a single point as he came 13th after starting from 22nd place in the grid.
Nevertheless, Gillan said that they have gathered some valuable information during the weekend in Montreal which will certainly provide help in making the considerable developments and the necessary preparations for the forthcoming races. In addition, he
said that they are looking forward to perform well in the season ahead.
At present, the British team is standing at 7th place in the constructors’ rankings with 44 points. Additionally, they are 16 points ahead of Force India and 14 points behind their main rival Sauber.
Above and beyond, they are trying their best to fight for a competitive position in this year’s championship.
