Mariano Rivera’s vocal cords become mystery – MLB Update
New York Yankees’ legendary closer Mariano Rivera has been unable to talk properly since the last month citing problem in his vocal cord and news was rife that a surgery has been scheduled for the stated purpose. However, this issue became more of a mystery
when the Yankees refused to acknowledge any appointment with a doctor, primarily because the injury is non-baseball and the ballclub is not permitted to speak unless allowed by Rivera himself.
Mariano’s health issue beefed up last week when he announced an appointment with a doctor to consult whether a surgery will be required on the vocal cords. There were a lot of questions regarding the availability of Rivera for the next season, when the Yankees
plan to go all-out in a bid to regain their World Series crown after crashing out of the American League Division Series this past season.
Rivera’s performance was central to the journey on which the Yankees embarked, proving to be the best closer in the history of Major League Baseball during the process. He was among the top closers on the circuit with regards to the number of saves made;
crossing the all-time record of 601 saves in the process and managing to engrave his name on the top of the list with 603 saves now to his credit.
Had it not been for the lack of top-quality pitchers in the rotation, barring CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova to some extent, the Yankees would well have been on their course to the 2011 Fall Classic. However, it was not to be and as much as the offence dominated
the opposition, the pitching failed. Nevertheless, Rivera has no intentions to retire from the game, not does he plan to change alliance at a time when all big teams are ready to spend extra dollars on closing pitchers.
A fitting example is Jonathan Papelbon’s acquisition by the Philadelphia Phillies from the Boston Red Sox at a record amount of 50-million-dollars. Rivera’s abilities and composure is much more than of Papelbon and thus the prospect of him extracting extra
dollars cannot be diminished.
It will be interesting to see how this case unfolds as time progresses.
