Marat Safin’s involved with tennis after retirement
The great Marat Safin was known for throwing his racquets all around the court, during his career, whenever he faced a shot or an ace for which he had no possible answer to. He is not only known for his phenomenal era of destroying racquets but he is also remembered for the time when he spontaneously pulled his shorts down behind the winner of the French Open in front of a large audience.
Marat, who is now retired from the centre stage as a player, has not yet given up the light of tennis in his career. He has now taken the job of handling the legal part of the sport by opting and dedicating himself as part of the Russian Olympic Committee and Russian Tennis Federation. Marat now feels that it is time that he should be nice to the game by being a part of tennis with a more formal role.
The two-time Grand Slam champion announced that he would hang up his boots and retire at the end of the 2009 season, but as the season progressed he was not able to perform at his best.  This was a great disadvantage for him, as his position dropped in the tennis rankings. Though it was expected that after the 30-year old retired he would sit back and enjoy the wealth that he already possessed but he proved the world wrong and showed everyone that he was not done with tennis yet. In December 2009, he became a part of the Russian Olympic Committee. His love for the sport can be seen from the fact that he is also working behind the scenes for the Russian Tennis Federation.
His recent visit to Wimbledon gave him a chance to review the moments he had lived there during his career as a professional tennis player and also to cherish the moments that this prestigious tournament had given him. This trip to London gave the former Russian player a chance rejoice all the memorable matches he had played at Wimbledon and it brought back the memory of all the support and love he had received from his fans there.
Furthermore, Safin was not on this trip due to official duties and in his past he had always stated that he hated the grass courts and he had complained about England being too expensive. But still he was there at the All England Club and was seemingly enjoying his stay there. He was constantly convincing players to attend the tournaments being held in his homeland. The Russian also stated that his native people did not have enough good players which would make them look forward to the game with more excitement. However, he believes that his people need to watch some good quality tennis live and this is why more players need to visit Russia and participate in the tennis event held in Moscow every year.
Additionally, when discussing Marat Safin it is impossible to not mention his sister Dinara Safina. These two siblings are the only brother and sister in the history of tennis to have both achieved the world number one spot. Dinara has been more dominating during the year 2009 as compared to her brother, as she was ranked number one for most of the year and cemented herself as one of the best players to have graced the game of tennis. This three time Grand Slam winner is now being plagued by many injuries due to the vigorous training she had been going through and the competitive matches she has played in recent times. It looks like she will also be taking some time off from the game to recover from her persistent back pains.
Marat Safin was known to be a player who liked things to be on the fast-track and was quite a party animal back in his days. It is out of the ordinary to see someone who used to be so energetic, now sitting in one place with a desk job. Even though he attends different tournaments and keeps on moving from place to place most of his time is spent in Russia, in his office. This may sound boring to his fans but Safin, on the other hand says that he is enjoying life and things could not have been better for him after his retirement.
