Manny Pacquiao cites family problems as reason for not performing well against Marquez – Boxing News
Filipino WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has cited family problems as the main reason for his under performance against Juan Manuel Marquez. The fight was the third episode of the Pacquiao vs. Marquez saga and the Filipino grabbed the victory by
just an inch. Pacquiao won via a majority decision, however his performance was widely condemned by his fans and critics.
Just a week away from facing unbeaten Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao has revealed he was suffering through family problems which impeded him from putting up a great performance. In his conference call, Pacquiao said, “The fight was not that hard for me
but I was having some family problems. I was in 100 percent physical condition for that fight against Marquez but I did have some family issue that I had to deal with. I also underestimated him.”
Pacquiao then compared Bradley with Marquez saying, “Bradley is a different type of fighter and we don’t take this fight lightly. We have trained hard for Bradley because he is the type of fighter we cannot underestimate. I don’t know what Tim Bradley will
bring in the ring on that night, but we will be ready for whatever he brings.”
On the other hand, Timothy Bradley it is time for the Filipino to lose. In his previous interviews, Bradley has repeatedly said that the Filipino pound for pound king will lose this time. According to Bradley, Pacquiao has grown old with time and now he
is not the same fighter that he once was. Yet, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, believes Pacquiao still has his abilities intact and this time he will prove his mettle to the naysayers.
Last week, Pacquiao said that his training has gone well and that he is all ready to take on the ‘Desert Storm’ Bradley. Pacquiao will be defending his WBO welterweight title against the unbeaten American on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Not just
his title, but also Pacquiao’s honour and pride will be on the line. If he loses to Bradley, his era will come to an end like all others.
