Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand reveals his playing style at West Ham United – EPL news
Manchester United centre-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 has revealed that he used to beat a forward with trickery rather than focusing on a clean sheet during his West Ham United days.
The Red Devils will travel to Upton Park to take on Ferdinand’s former club West Ham United on Saturday. Ferdinand, whose ongoing 2010-11 season has been hampered by a host of injury problems, will miss out on this game too.
Both teams are looking to secure victory in this game as a win would take United close to winning the title, whereas a win for the Hammers will take them out of the drop zone.
“When I was a young lad at West Ham, I was more concerned about what piece of skill I’d pulled off against a forward rather than keeping a clean sheet. Not that there were all that many at West Ham in those days, mind you. But these days, when you’ve come
off the pitch with a clean sheet it’s a tremendous feeling,” said Ferdinand.
He added, “As long as you get a clean sheet, you’re happy. It’s a mentality I’ve grown into over the years. Now’s probably a better time to be breaking into the game in terms of prolonging your career for as long as possible.”
The 32-year-old believes that his exuberance of youth has now been taken over by a mature defender in the red shirt of Manchester United. Ferdinand believes that a youngster of today has the support of technologies and latest measures to take care of themselves.
The former West Ham defender believes that these days the younger players are expected to be mature from the start of their career. He added that today’s youth is nurtured in a way that they cannot break into the senior team until or unless they show some
maturity in their performances.
Ferdinand said that he enjoyed his youth days a lot. He thinks he made many mistakes on the pitch which is intolerable these days because the media attention and technology have changed drastically since then.
