M1 Carbine: can the receiver be modified?

I have an Inland M1 Carbine (1980's) and it occasionally jams when using re-loads. I know that this isn't a problem with fresh cartridges, but the re-loads are cheaper. Unfortunately, the diameters are not consistent.

I would like to know if there is any proven modification to the receiver (such as machining a small oblong chamfer at the opening, biased towards the clip) that would help with jamming, but not impede the normal chambering action.

Why are your reloads not consistant? The ones I reload for my Carbine work perfectly. If I was you, I would work on the quality of my reloads. I wouldn't modify my rifle.
