Liverpool look to land Joe Cole and Mesut Özil now available

Joe Cole could be set to join Liverpool after the club have offered him a contract worth a reported £90,000-a-week.

Cole was released by Chelsea and is available on a free transfer and has attracted the interest of many clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool hope to seal the 28-year-old’s signature with their offer, and want to know this week if he will accept the proposal. Cole is set to make a decision within the next 48 hours.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will look to sign Craig Bellamy if he cannot land Cole. Welshman Bellamy will be available from Manchester City as they are looking to make some money back after spending over £75million so far this summer. Redknapp is also closing in on Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa from Spartak Moscow, and is willing to listen to offers for Robbie Keane as Aston Villa look to sign the Irishman.

Real Madrid and Chelsea have been alerted by the news that Werder Bremen might have to sell Mesut Özil. The German club have been told they will have to sell the 21-year-old rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer. Özil was one of the bright sparks from the World Cup and is wanted by many clubs. It was believed he was going to commit his future to Bremen, but now he could be available.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger stated he was not for sale and was very much a part of his plans for the upcoming season. Former Arsenal and Everton striker Francis Jeffers will have a trial at Blackpool. The Premier League new boys will land Jeffers after he was released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season. Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is also ready to sign Derby striker Rob Hulse.

Wigan manager Roberto Martínez wants to bring Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo on loan to the DW stadium next season, while another Chelsea youngster Jeffrey Bruma is wanted by Steve McCLaren at Wolfsburg.
