Lewis Hamilton says Fernando Alonso chased him like a bull in Canada – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that Fernando Alonso of Ferrari chased him like a bull in the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix, but insisted that he has no complaints with the Spaniard.
Hamilton showed an impressive pace in the qualifying at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and successfully managed to claim second grid position for the race behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
However, he failed to make the most out of his competitive grid slot in the race and could only secure third podium finish as he was overtaken by Alonso during the last stint.
The British driver said that he failed to match the straight line pace of the Scarlet team because of which he could not hold his position. In addition, he said that the two-time world champion chased him like a bull during the ending laps and finally passed
him to claim the second podium finish despite taking a start from 6th grid position.
“I think some small part of my wing came off,” Hamilton said. “We were very close, it was a good battle and he was very fair.”
“Double DRS [zones] is a bit of a pain in the backside because the Ferrari is so quick with the DRS in a straight line so it was impossible to hold him behind. Even when I got in the DRS behind him I was on the limiter so I couldn't pull past him, which
was a little bit unfortunate,” he said.
“Being hunted down by Fernando is like being chased down by a bull,” he added.
Additionally, he admitted that he is feeling a little bit upset over his result in the preceding race. Nevertheless, he expressed that he is quite happy with his performance as they managed to score some competitive points in the constructors’ championship.
Currently, the 2008 world champion is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Moreover, he is ahead of his main rival, Mark Webber and behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. It will be thrilling to see how he performs in the approaching
races.
