KwaZulu-Natal Inland v South Western Districts – CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, 2012/13 – Match Update
Bolstered by a five-wicket haul from Brady Barends, followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Divan-Jaco-van-Wyk-c54246’s half-century, KwaZulu-Natal Inland secured a 10-wicket victory over South Western Districts during their match in the ongoing CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, at the City
Oval in Pietermaritzburg on November 11.
South Western Districts won the toss and elected to bat first, but were unable to do justice to their decision. With Brady Barends (10-1-34-5) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YA-Abdulla-c2805 (8-1-23-2) on the prowl, the team’s batting order failed to rise to the challenge, and succumbed,
all out, to a dismal final total.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-McLaren-c938 was dismissed on duck in the third over, and the fourth over saw three more batsmen falling prey to Barends without
having contributed a single run to the team total – skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luthando-Lucas-Mnyanda-c73322.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pieter-Andrew-Stuurman-c82255 only managed a 9-run contribution before he was bowled by Abdulla in the 13th over, and in addition to Jonker, Kobus Scholtz (15) and Brendon Louw (11) were the only other batsmen who registered double-digit scores. Both Gareth
Dukes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Reece-Williams-c84470 was dismissed on duck. By the end of the 30th over, South Western Districts found themselves all out at an unimpressive 134.
The target posed no difficulties to KwaZulu-Natal Inland, who chased it down successfully within 18 overs, without losing a single wicket. The innings was dominated by an unbeaten 138-run stand between Divan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Wyk (80*) and wicketkeeper batsman Lepono
Ndhlovu (45*).
South Western Districts’ bowlers were powerless to restrict the oppositions’ openers, or make any dents in their batting order. Gareth Dukes (2-0-21-0, with an economy rate of 10.50), Kobus Scholtz (2-0-26-0, with an economy rate of 13.00), and Glen Addicott
(0.2-0-9-0, with an economy rate of 27.00) proved the most expensive for their side, while the most economical was skipper McMillan, who gave away 27 in 6 overs.
With KwaZulu-Natal Inland all but granted a free hand by the opposition, the team went on to reach 138 comfortably, with 10 wickets and 196 deliveries still remaining.
