Kevin Love scores 6, Minnesota Timberwolves still roll over Philadelphia 76ers 105-88: NBA Recap
As Minnesota Timberwolves start to see the return of some healthy players they are now returning back to winning ways. The team gave a solid performance on Tuesday night when they dropped the Philadelphia Sixers 105-88 here at
the Wells Fargo Center.
Seven Timberwolves made it in the double digit scoring figures on the night. Alexey Shved came off the bench to score 17 points; Josh Howard posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Jose Barea added 11 points
and dished out 10 assists on relief. Kevin Love has a night to forget though and was restricted to a season low 6 points.
“You aren't always going to play like we did tonight. Sometimes you have a bad game. ... I think we're doing a good job of staying aggressive, and it's working out for us." Minnesota guard J.J. Barea commented on the team effort.
Evan Turner paced the Sixers with a game high 19 points; Jason Richardson posted 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Jrue Holiday chipped in with 13 points for the Phillies.
Minnesota shot 52 percent from the three point range compared to a partly 25 percent by the 76ers; the Timberwolves also put up a strong defensive performance as they grabbed 40 defensive rebounds compared to 27 by the Phillies.
Wolves took control of the game early and then stayed ahead the entire time to complete a convincing win. Love made a three pointer early in the period, his only of the game, to put the Timberwolves up 9-7. The Sixers kept them
in check early on and Richardson layup tied the score on 13, but the Timberwolves had other plans for the night and started pulling ahead. A 11-0 run late put them up by 31-19.
The Timberwolves followed up their good late work late in the first period with a 10 for nothing run at the start of the second to push their lead to 44-24. They were racing away and Shved nailed one in from downtown to cement
their authority on 63-40 later in the period. Phillies scored the last five points of the quarter to reduce the deficit down to 47-65 at halftime.
The advantage the Wolves had piled in the first half was too much and it helped them keep sufficient distance throughout the third. Minnesota were enjoying a solid 20 points lead as they headed in the final quarter.
Phillies did outscore Minnesota in the fourth period but the damage had already been done by the Timberwolves, who cruised to victory.
