Kansas City Royals’ Zach Miner building arm strength as he recuperates from surgery – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals’ Zach Miner is building up his arm strength, as he is currently recuperating from reconstructive right elbow surgery that was done on 28 May, 2010. He is working hard to regain his fitness before the 2011 Major League Baseball season begins
in April. Though there is still risk involved in his exercise routine, the Royals are riding their hopes high on the pitcher.
"I'm throwing 40 pitches in the bullpen every three days," Miner said. "I started throwing all of my pitches -- breaking balls and everything. It feels good. I'm bouncing back well, and hopefully I'll be throwing to hitters here in a week and a half or two
weeks."
The former Detroit Tigers’ pitcher is making good progress in Arizona, as he is doing his best to prepare himself for the regular season. The maestro has no time limit on getting back to work and it is important for him to stick to a safe workout schedule,
as not to aggravate his injury any further. The Royals are looking to extend his workout in Spring Training and beyond April. The team will be putting him in a Minor League assignment to help him regain some confidence in his pitching.
"I don't think they're going to keep sending me up the ladder if I'm not doing well," Miner said. "The trainers have been great and doing a good job of pushing me but - at the same time - making sure we don't rush it."
The Royals recruited Miner as a Minor League free agent. During his tenure with the Tigers, he carried an earned run average of 4.24 in 157 fixtures. He won 25 and lost 20 games for Detroit. In his time with the club, Miner made relief role appearances 35
times. He eventually was put into free agency when he had to undergo the Tommy John surgery for his right elbow.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Miner regains his fitness and plays a positive role for the Royals. With the MLB regular season right around the corner, the team will be praying for his return to the line-up.
