Kansas City Royals’ GM, Dayton Moore, lays the truth on Zack Greinke deal
Major League Baseball is going through a reformation process, which has seen many teams restructure their 40-man rosters for the coming year. The off-season period is highlighted with the movement running along the free agency.
Many players are without a club at the moment and while some are looking down at a possible wage increase, the winter meetings have arrived to soothe out the chase.
Unsigned ball stars usually need to pursue mutual agreements between clubs and themselves to play in the coming season. At times there are considerations made for stars, which in some cases seem undervalued. For Type-A agents like
Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford, however, things are different. The top two players in the free market have the ability to wait out in the meetings and agree to terms with any club at the end of the deadline.
For many clubs, however, the chase is a depleting activity and many offer more financial cover for sealing the deal early. That is where the Kansas City Royals hope to take an advantage out of the situation. Their General Manager
recently met with Major League Baseball Network personalities, Kevin Miller and Ken Rosenthal, to discuss matters pertaining to Zack Greinke.
Royals’ GM, Dayton Moore, had stated earlier that a trade deal for top pitcher, Greinke, could be setup soon and for a player who is considered the next hottest player in the market after Cliff Lee, that is music to the ears of
interested parties. The price tag however includes two blue ribbon impact players and one red ribbon ace.
Though the demand seems outrageous, Moore explains,
"If we decide to move Zack, there'll be enough for us to be satisfied if that's what we decide we ultimately need to do. But again, I don't know when that is - I don't if it's here, if it's at the (July) non-waiver Trade Deadline, I don't know if it's in
the (next) offseason."
When asked why he was considering a trade, he responded with,
"The difference is it's more in the public, and a lot of people in the industry believe if we're going to trade Zack Greinke that now is the time, because history has shown that if you wait another year and he's got one year left (on his contract), you
don't get as much, or whatever. But you may get more at the Deadline, I don't know."
