Juan Carlos Burgos unanimously retains title against Cristobal Cruz - Boxing news
Juan Carlos Burgos successfully defended his WBC Silver featherweight title by unanimously nailing Cristobal Cruz in a 10-round bout organised by ESPN2 in its weekly Friday Night Fights boxing television show.
The night also witnessed another bout between Edgar Santana and Manuel Perez in the light welterweight division.
Juan Carlos was not able to beat the veteran Cruz convincingly. Cruz overshadowed Juan heavily by not only his experience but also his technical talents and abilities. Even then, Juan, infamous as Miniburgos, was able to grasp a win. Juan had been in a total
29 brawls and had lost just one to Hozumi Hasegawa.
A glance at the young Mexican’s stats show that he is a knockout specialist as he has collected 19 of his wins by kayo. Despite of possessing the ability to win a bout by KO, Juan was unable to do so on February 24, 2012 against Cristobal. Juan did flattened
Cruz in the sixth round but Cristobal also repeated the same gesture and threw Juan on the ring floor in the ninth round.
The fight which is being denoted by many as a close-ended brawl has raised questions about the reliability of the scoring system. But at the moment no complaints have been put forth by the Cruz camp that might alarm the apex boxing authorities. Cristobal,
widely known as the ‘Lacandon’, was entering in the ring for the 56th time in his illustrious career.
A bird’s eye view of his huge resume reveals that he has collected many apex titles especially in his home town such as IBF and IBO featherweight titles, WBO NABO featherweight title and others. Cruz boasts 39 wins and 23 of them by knocking the opponent
out.
Cruz has collected wins over names that intimidate other men in their respective divisions such as Orlando Salido, Jose Reyes, Francisco Lorenzo and others. Despite of such a hefty resume, and quality experience due to some reason Cristobal was unable to
put forth an epic show at least in the eyes of Steve Weisfeld, Pierre Benoist, and Julie Lederman.
Juan, world number nine super featherweight, now has 29 wins in 30 brawls and Cruz, world’s number 11 super featherweight has collected his career’s 13th loss.
