Juan Carlos Burgos takes on Cesar Vazquez on ESPN’s Friday Night Fight show – Boxing News
Juan Carlos Burgos, the current WBC silver and WBO Latino super featherweight champion, will collide with fellow undefeated countryman Cesar Vazquez, the former WBC FECOMBOX super featherweight champion. in a 10-round bout which will be held on July 20,
2012.
The bout will have the WBO Latino junior lightweight title up for grabs and will headline ESPN’s weekly boxing show ‘Friday Night Fights’. The pay-per-view will also witness Aaron Martinez taking on Juan Garcia in a non-title eight-round welterweight bout
while constituting the co-main event.
The ring for the showdown will be set at Edgewater Casino Resort situated at 2020 South Casino Drive, Laughlin, Nevada, United States and is being jointly promoted by Art Pelullo of Banner Promotions, Ken Thompson of Thompson Boxing, JEG Boxing, ESPN and
the Edgewater Casino Resort itself.
Juan, 24, is considered a charismatic pugilist in the super featherweight division, who has been in a total of 30 bouts.
Since his career's only loss to Hozumi Hasegawa, a bout with vacant WBC featherweight title up for grabs, the Mexican proud has built a four-bout win streak and most probably will strengthen it further by grabbing a win over his Friday night opponent Cesar.
Burgos, also known as ‘Miniburgos’, snatched the WBC silver and WBO Latino titles by collecting a majority decision over Luis Cruz. Juan then moved on and defended the WBC silver super featherweight gold successfully against Cristobal Cruz.
Ken Thompson, promoter Juan Burgos, while sharing his thoughts about his man stated, “Burgos is on a serious quest to get a world title shot again and Cesar Vazquez will put it all on the line to derail those dreams. It will be another thrilling night of
boxing as two Mexican warriors try to make a name for themselves and place their careers on the limelight.”
Cesar, Juan’s Friday night opponent, also possesses a decent resume in fact boasts an undefeated streak. The 26-year-old has been in a total of 25 bouts and has pinned 16 of his opponents by sheer knockout.
Also known as ‘Saba’, Vazquez statistically and technically has no chance at all in front of Juan as he has never taken on a man with talent, proficiency and above all resilience equal to Burgos.
The bout will be a classic one as Juan will try his level best to cash in the golden opportunity to move on and get a title shot whereas for Cesar, a win will substantially boost the Mexicali proud up in the divisional rankings.
