Jan Jorgensen, Anastasia Prokopenko dominate during FZ Forza Denmark International – Badminton news
Jan Jorgensen and Anastasia Prokopenko stole the show for Denmark at the Frederikshavn Arena Nord as the country clinched four out of five event categories on the final day of the FZ Forza Denmark International.
The only final match that did not feature an all-Denmark encounter was of Women’s Singles category.
Top seed in the Men’s Singles circuit, Denmark’s Jan Jorgensen made a tremendous victory over compatriot Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in straight sets by a splendid score line of 21-15, 21-12. The 23-year-old shuttler outplayed his opponent in the final clash
quite convincingly.
In the first straight set, Vittinghus had an 8-11 lead at one stage and gained a solid momentum before two outstanding spells of five consecutive points from Jorgensen took the game at 18-13. Vittinghus could add only two points and Jorgensen took the game
with 21-15 in the end.
The Aalborg shuttler, Jorgensen, grabbed a 4-1 lead early in the second game and remained dominant in the match until the end. A tremendous six-point spell at 12-12 from Jorgensen finished the second straight set in his favour at 21-12 and he won the title
easily.
In the Women’s Singles category, the third seed Russian shuttler Anastasia Prokopenko crushed Agnese Allegrini in a thrilling final encounter with a comprehensive score of 21-15, 21-15. Prokopenko stumbled upon the court from the beginning of the first game
as she took it 21-15.
She gave Allegrini the same treatment in the second set with a strong game play after she made a huge jump when she was trailing 7-15. A marvellous 14-point clearance from her dragged the game in her favour 21-15 again.
Men’s Doubles final was yet another all-Denmark encounter where the pair of Rasmus Bonde and Anders Kristiansen defeated compatriots Mikkel Elbjorn Larsen and Christian Skovgaard in a deciding set with the score line of 21-14, 19-21, 21-16.
On the other hand, Maria Helsbol and Anne Skelbaek faced a disappointing defeat by 21-14, 21-14 at the hands of fourth seed women’s doubles pair of Line Kruse and Marie Ropke in the Women’s Doubles final.
Rasmus Bonde along with his partner, Maria Helsbol, lost the Mixed Doubles final by 13-21, 15-21 at the hands of second seed compatriot pair of Mads Pieler Kolding and Julie Houmann.
