Is there such a board type game, where you can win: 9 1/2 to 8 1/2, what game is it???

MY FRIEND SAID HE WON THE BOARD GAME 9 1/2 TO 8 1/2, THAT'S NINE AND A HALF TO EIGHT AND A HALF???? HE WOULD'NT TELL ME WHAT GAME...

Chess gives 1 point for a win, 1/2 point for a draw (tie) and 0 points for a loss.  He could have played 18 chess games in which he won 9, lost 8, and had one draw...Seems pretty unlikely.

I can think of several board games which involve half-point scoring.. so I'd need more information to identify the game. Do you have any other information?
