Question:

Internet Radio to AM-FM Radio DJ?

My question is; I am currently an Internet DJ with www.legacy-radio.com and I was thinking, would it be good if I e-mailed the program Directors of the local radio stations around my area to see if they are hiring.

This way they can tune into my show, and I have been with legacy for 2 months now and I am really enjoying it. Would this be a good idea to possibly get my foot in the door into possibility becoming an on-air personality?

  1. Most of the programmers seeking out talent are usually small town radio stations, as the others on here have said, depending upon the PD, some may listen but most want a 2 minute or 5 minute demo that they can judge for themselves (as I've seen requests on cd but also mp3 in the past.)

But I find in any business, sometimes you have to start at the small fry station to work your way up.

That is one way...another is stations in the US will usually start advertising that they are looking for applicants on their websites and with employment agencies (including the NAACP) to meet EOE requirements (Equal oppertunity Employer requirements)

  2. Don't  email. Go in-person with a tape. Much  better chance. Depends on what sized market.

  3. I work in radio and to get an on air job you have to submit a demo disc to the program director. These are very busy people, they will not seek you out. If you tell them to listen to your online show they never will. You have to make a demo about 2 min with all your best stuff. Your very best at the beginning. You impress them in the first couple seconds they will most likely listen to the rest of your demo. Make sure you put variety in your demo as well. Need more tips just im or something. I'd be glad to help.

If you want to start by getting your foot in the door try getting an internship or entry level job att a radio station. Just go to their website online and apply. Then once you get your foot in the door you make friends with the big wigs and then give them your demo

  4. to be honest people like to do things in person.

it is ok all this send a CV online and a email.

but people like to see and ask questions

do a demo of yourself your best stuff take that with you ask for a interview then point out your a online dj

    good luck
