Indonesia’s top guns ready to shine in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011 – Badminton News
Indonesia’s top shuttlers are ready to impress in the upcoming home event of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011, which is set to kick-off in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 21-26.
In the Men’s Singels category, the top Indonesian shuttler, Taufik Hidayat, who is currently World Number Three, will lead the Singles squad. After the bad performance of Indonesia’s young shuttlers in the Sudirman Cup 2011, the home event will be a good
opportunity for the players to regain their confidence.
Taufik will be looking forward to win his seventh title in the Indonesia open, as he has already won on six occasions and levelled the record of Ardy Wiranata, a former badminton legend from Indonesia.
The former World and Olympic Champion, Taufik said, “There’s no doubt I am seeking both a seventh title here and also more points for London. After witnessing the poor performance of the men’s singles at the Sudirman Cup, I expect a stronger challenge from
the newer Indonesian players.”
Indonesia’s Women’s Singles player, Greysia Polii, is confident to put up great show in the event to earn much needed points for securing a higher ranking to compete at the 2012 London Olympics.
Greysia said, “My main focus is the Olympics, and as the Indonesia Open is a Super Series Premier event, is crucial for my partner [Meiliana Jauhari] and I to collect qualifying points here.”
In the Men’s Doubles category, the ruling Olympic Champions, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan, will be looking forward to win the home title. Hendrawan, who has just recovered from an injury, is determined to perform well in front of the local crowd.
Kido expressed his views by saying that the pair want make an impact in this event, in order to gain momentum for the World Badminton Championships. He said that an individual tournament is less pressurising, when compared to a team championship event like
the Sudirman Cup.
However, before the home event, the Indonesian pair will participate in the Singapore Open Super Series 2011, which will be held in Singapore from June 14-19.
