Madhya Pradesh 192 & 474 v Mumbai 434 & 113 - Match drawn (Mumbai won on 1st innings)
On Thursday, January 05, 2012 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Madhya-Pradesh-c809 in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite, based on their first innings score at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.
After hammering 250 runs for the loss of three wickets on the third day of the four-day match, Madhya Pradesh resumed their second innings on Thursday in a bid to post a mammoth tally on the board against their rivals.
Overnight batsmen MD Mishra and D Bundela continued their superb form with the bat as they punished Mumbai bowlers by smacking them all around the park.
The batsmen exhibited extreme zeal and confidence against the decent Mumbai bowling attack and without giving the bowlers a chance to make a breakthrough, the batsmen took chances in a bid to keep the score card ticking.
It was evident that the constant flow of runs by Madhya Pradesh batsmen was creating problems for the fielding side, who wanted to bowl-out their opponents sooner than later.
Nonetheless, the fielding team failed to grab a single wicket on the final day, as Madhya Pradesh declared their second innings by posting 474 runs on the board, with Mishra unbeaten on 174 and Bundela standing on 101 runs.
Given 233 runs to win the match, Mumbai started their second innings in pursuit of victory; however, with the day almost coming to an end, they needed to bat with a rapid pace in order to grab this victory from the clutches of their opponents.
The situation was tougher for Madhya Pradesh, as they needed to bowl-out their opponents to win the match, which was a rare probability considering the limited time they had before the end of the day’s play.
Mumbai could bolster only 113 runs for the loss of one wicket at stumps on the final day, but even though they failed to chase the target, they were awarded a win due to their better score in their first innings.
From Mumbai, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praful-Waghela-c2203, stayed unbeaten on 51 runs, and Kaustubh Pawar stood tall with a knock of 52 runs.
Pawar was also named as the Player of the Match for his overall impressive performance.
