Need a safe area as I am not from Australia, so will not know by accent etc whether an area is rough or not. Will be leaving apartment vacant for 2 weeks at a go, while I go to work. Also would need to be near main Airport. Thanks for any help or advice.

  1. it doesn't really matter where you are in perth, there is no way a trip to the airport is going to take three hours.  even in peak traffic, if you live in the metropolitan sprawl maximum it would take you is about 1.5 hours, using main motorways.

if you are looking for a respectable area with a bit of nightlife going on, you could try subiaco or fremantle - these are fairly expensive though.  leederville or surrounds is another area with a bit of nightlife.  joondalup area has a very high density uk/irish population and is quite a new area so you could try there too.

there are only certain suburbs in perth have flats/apartments.  most areas are usual houses (bungalows).

try looking on realestate.com.au and clicking under the rental tabs.  alternatively reiwa.com.au has suburb profiles.

  2. City Beach is sound.

  3. id say kingsley/woodvale/greenwood in joondalup, all are like 5 mins from greenwood station, where you can get a train into perth easy !

  4. You offer very little information, but reading between the lines I take it that you will be working FIFO and want to be near the Domestic airport.

Lots of people work FIFO and live nowhere near the airport. I live in Fremantle and did it for a while. Its a $50 or so taxi ride. 30-40 mins in off-peak travel. You don't have to be "near" the airport, everywhere is near in the Perth metro area.

City Beach is a nice enough area, but it is nowhere near the airport and apartments might be hard to come by. Its very much a beach area.

The Perth metropolitan area is not like a major city in other parts of the world. There is a small central area and then a large sprawling suburban area comprised mainly of individual (single storey) houses.

Apartment rentals are  available in the central areas of Perth and Northbridge. Rents will vary but could be between $350 and $1,350 per week.

If you really wanted to be nearer to the airport look in the Burswood, Victoria Park etc areas and out along the Great Eastern Highway. Ascot for example.

  5. In answer to your query to Fiddler - City Beach is a suburb.

You can't really tell by Australians' accents whether we are rough or not, I reckon we all pretty much sound the same.  It's not like the UK where you can tell what area someone is from.

The airport is about a 20 minute drive from the city.  Even if you lived way out in the suburbs, it wouldn't take you more than an hour to get to the airport.  Areas very close to the airport are not the best, but in the region of the airport, I would look at Bayswater, Guildford, Victoria Park.

Areas that are nice which have apartments or units or villas would be South Perth, Como, Joondalup, Fremantle, Victoria Park.

Check out this website, it should have some helpful info for you.

    Good luck with your move!

  6. East Perth, Subiaco, Joondalup, Como

    All are Expensive though
