Importing general goods from china

I bought items from China before but they came by air. Now for the first time I will be receiving a container shipment, freight.  My supplier notified me that freight covers door to door and clearence fees, but not duty fees. What forms should I fill out, or what steps should I take to assure there will be no hold ups in customs? It is a 20 ft container, so it isnt a large shipment, but I've read so many articles that I'm all confused. Please Help.
