I need to find a website with free annual figures from the financial statements of companies within an industry, providing historical data extending for at least 30 years.

  1. You'd probably have to pay through the nose for it at some source like CompuStat to get that much data.  I'm not sure EDGAR even goes back that far, and that won't be in EXCEL format.

AdvFN can give you data back to 1993 that is accessible fairly easily through EXCEL.  I have a free open-source add-in that might be of help.  See:

Or, check out this message in the group for a PHP routine to grab the data into EXCEL without using the add-in:

  2. You will find free US data, but (most likley) not UK .. why ? because LSE makes good money out of selling statistics :-)

NB. You don't need Excel format, Excel will 'import' straight text with separator (eg .csv) or fixed field ..
