1. You can join a community like chess.com where there are atricles, forums and online chess playing where you can learn from others.

2. You can purchase an electronic chess set that has teaching modes in it.

3. You could be chess playing software such as Chess Master or Chess Base's Fritz11.

Its ok to play against the computer. But if you're really interested to play chess, you can join online chess communites. You can play correspondence chess, so you can play at your own pace. If lucky, maybe you can find someone out there who can guide you through every move, explaining the logic behind the sequence of moves. A computer wont be able to do that for you. ... Better yet, there other sites out there that have games containing annotated moves. So you can learn more.

Go to yahoo games chess,go to lounge select page pick a lobby.once in lobby create a table,make it private,now invite one of the BOTS listed at bottom of players list. Bots are computer generated players.
