  1. Do you speak spanish? If not you will need to learn while your there.  You will find some people that speak english. Where are you coming from? The weather in PR is hot all year. Bayamon is a city or urban area. Its sometimes considered part of the 'Metro area' along w/ San Juan. Bayamon has nice parts & real bad parts too like any city area would. Crime rates are higher in the urban areas. However also like other cities there is convinience of lots of stores, transportation, jobs, schools, etc. & Universities in Puerto Rico are good & for a cheaper price than the US.

About Shipping your car: there is an 'excise tax' which is 6% on anything that is shipped into PR. However I believe this is added in with the cost of shipping. I use La Rosa del Monte whenever I ship anything to PR. They are great & you can pick it up in Toa Baja. But do not ship your car unless the value in PR will equal or be higher than the cost of the car & shipping together, otherwise it would be better to sell the car & buy 1 when you get there. You can check clasificados online to see going prices. GoodlK!

  2. Bayamon  is  a  veru=y  heavy traffic  area...so prepare  Yourself  to  come out of  Your house  super early....

    check it  @ www.gotopuertorico.com

  3. Bayamon is the largest suburb of the San Juan metropolitan area. It's  very diverse cityw ith good and bad neighborhoods.  It is west of San Juan, therefore if you plan on working in the capital you will need a car as it is a bit far from the central part of the city.

For more information on the city, please visit their official website:

As with moving cars from one locality to another, there are usually fees one must pay to get their vehicle registered. I am sure that Puerto Rico has imposed such fees for cars brought in from outside.  You might want to consult the island's Department of Transportation for a list of fees and questions that relate to your move to the island:

  4. You are probably safer attending school in New York City than taking a risk with your vehicle to Bayamon. With that said, the area is consider part of the metro area and I am sure you don't need a car for your normal needs. It's best to leave your car behind. I'm sure you will meet good people that will accommodate you.

If you decide to ship your car over, make sure, and I can not emphasized this enough, to ensure this shipment in full. The most popular freight shippers with cars are: La Flor de Mayo, Mudanza Monti and La Rosa del Monte. These companies are so bad that most insurance provider are no longer dealing with them because they can't afford the loss. All three are networked together in terms of business and even if you select an American company, chances are they have no choice but to deal with them. So in essence, insurance is extremely important. Make sure you have taken photos of your vehicle to prove that it is in good condition. Perhaps holding up a current news paper on the ship date would be wise. Good luck!

  5. I gotta be honest with you ! I'm from PR (the south area) and I had the opportunity to go to an University in Bayamon .. scholarships, free apartment, ...etc u name it ... but as soon as I saw the city OMG I had to get out of there ... the traffic is terrible .. HORRIBLE and everything there is CEMENT .. every where you look is CEMENT no trees no nothing ... I actually thought I wouldnt be able to breath in that city .. anyways .. I HATE BAYAMON and LOTS of ppl do too.  Im sorry .. but thats my opinion!

Oh and the car issue ... yeap they are going to bill u some extra $$ when ur car gets here s don't be surprise ... been there done that !

    Good Luck though !
