I am new to Geneology, would these count?

I found out that two people from my grandfather's side were Irish, and each would give me 1/64, if I add both 1/64ths together I would be 1/32 Irish, right? Then, my father's family has some Irish, but I don't know how much. Also, the next closest on my grandmother's side gives me about 1/256 Irish then I have two other Irish ancestors from 1716 and 1712 and I don't know how much I would get from them. My question is, do I have enough Irish blood to claim to be part Irish?

  1. There is no set amount to be able to claim being part Irish, you could be half Irish or 1/2096 and regardless of the percentage, you still have Irish blood. Wear your heritage with pride!!

  2. Well, that really isn't alot.  You usually need at least 1/16th for it to really count.  However, if you are making a family tree, that could be added as "twigs" after you've done the main stuff (direct lines according to your parents, their immediate family, their parents, their immediate family, etc.

My cousin is working on a family tree and she's gone back quite a few generations.  Next time I get to talk to her, I'll ask her for more details as I don't get a chance to talk to her much these days and I'm a bit hazy about the topic.

    Love and Peace Out.

  3. All your ancestors are a part of you.  You can claim and be proud of all of it.

  4. Yes, because any blood still makes it a part of you ancestry. Of course if you later learn you have a more dominant bloodline from a different area, you would most likely claim to be from that descent because that would most affect your genes. However, if you decide to relate more to your Irish blood, even if it isn't a lot, you can do that. Keep your geneology alive because it ALL plays a part in who you are.

  5. You could, but I wouldn't go flaunting it since it so little.
