I work Monday thru Friday from 6am to 5pm most days and some night when the parents are at work. They are in the military. They didn’t want anyone in there homedue to them sometime come home for lunch and after PT and sleep after night work so they asked me to keep the kids they drop them off at my house and I provide meals for the six year old and she provides for the 6 month old. I take the six year old to school and other summer activities and I am paid 1200 a month is that enough for a nanny in North Carolina? I know that minimum wage is $ 6.55. This is the lowest I have been paid as a nanny and I am just not sure. Please help

  1. shouldn't this have been worked out before you took the job? I mean, its going to be really awkward asking for more money now... sorry but you should be making at least 2500 a month and I doubt they are going to pony up.

  2. I would suggest you decide how much time you are willing to work for that much money.  Tell the parents "I can work 50 hours a week at the current rate.  Any care you want over 50 hours in a week, I will need to charge an additional $5 per hour (or the number of hours and rate you decide).  You are really working a lot!  You need the time off for your sanity (or at least a little more money) A nanny generally makes more when the care is at the child's home rather then the nanny's home (due to stay at home mom's being able to provide the same service).  I don't live in NC, but here in Idaho watching 2 kids for 45-50 hours a week $1200 a month, sounds about right.

  3. i think you can get at leat 2000

tell them you need a raise b/c of the amount of work you do

  4. Why did you take the job, before figuring out much you think is fair, versus how much is actually appropriate for the amount of work you do? Makes no sense to me...
