  1. It, depends with your roommates, If they could look after it, whilses your at work, or get a dog-sitter. They do grow into big dogs, and need alot of room. You would also need alot of running area round your place.

  2. Are the roommates willing to help with the dog in the evening when you are not home?  If they are willing to let the dog out to potty you should be okay.  Keep in mind the husky may not listen to the roommates as they tend to be one person dogs.  I fostered one for a short amount of time and some people across town adopted her.... she used to dig out of her kennel and come to my house and refused to listen to them when they called her.  That being said if you are willing to put the time and effort into the dog they are a wonderful breed, and you should be fine.  It sounds like you did the research so have fun and enjoy your husky.

  3. You've researched the breed -- have your roommates? Will they be helping care for the dog when you aren't home? Do they understand that they can't leave the yard gate open and put the dog outside? Are they all on-board with you for this dog?

Siberians are "selective listeners" -- and they tend to ignore and walk all over people whom they do not respect. Everyone in the household who deals with the dog is going to have to commit to training the dog, and you must all be consistent.

Example: You want the dog to sit before you give him his food (a good idea, btw). Two of your roommates make him sit for his meals, but the third one doesn't. The result: He doesn't think he has to sit, and you get frustrated with him.

ALL of you must commit to enforcing the rules.

The dog will not be loyal to you -- Siberians are not one-man dogs, and he will love all of your roommates as much as you, possibly more if they end up spending more time with him than you. I assume you can accept this?

Just some things to think about. It's good that the dog will likely have someone at home with him all of the time. Just remember that he will need firm, consistent training from EVERYONE he lives with, and your roommates must ALL be aware of the breed's quirks.

  4. They are so Beautiful dogs.

They do need alot of looking after especially walking and running and that's what they were bred for running.

If your flat is big enough for when you are at work he/she will be ok but make sure that your room mates do let he/her out to do her business but if no one is in make sure that there is plenty of newspaper for her to do it on.

You need to make sure that she/he will get on with your room mates as-well, so what you could do is when you go to choose one see if they would go with you and then when you pick him/her they know they are coming to live with all of you but that he/she is your dog.

If it is a puppy you are thinking of getting whoever you get him/her off ask what feeding resume they are on and walks e.t.c and jabs and worming.

If he/she has not been wormed make sure you do and at 8 week they will need their jabs.

When you do get one try to get them into a routine for example when you have your breakfast she/he has theirs and same with tea and when you have finished breakfast take them for a walk you know where im going.

My cousin has 5 huskies 2 are adults and 3 are puppies and the father when he runs just by him-self he can pull a fully grown man of around 12 stone and and woman of 9 stone so you can see that they can also be very strong when they grow up as-well.

    Hope this helps . J.P

  5. The roommate thing should not be a problem , but you'll have too make sure that the dog ,listens to you , NOT the roommate , well i mean , he going to have to listen but your dog need to know WHO is his owner ?while you away to work ? What will you do with him ?This is important?? Will your roommate take care of him ????IF SO , you will have to give EXCELLENT training to him ...??? Husky are stubborn... he'll probably IGNORE them , My first husky was , ( well trained ) BUT NOT EXCELLENT and he would NEVER listen to my husband if I was away ?? SO there are still allot of things you need to figure out ?

  6. They are beautiful dogs, very sweet too -- and they LOVE to run.  Can't stress that enough.  If you're willing to give this dog a few good hours of running exercise every day before/after work, then great -- and if you don't, it's going to figure out a way to run anyways.  My grandparents had a husky mix and it would BOLT whenever the gate or front door opened, pushing past anyone that stood there.  Sure, she would always come back, a few hours later.... but just had to get that running out.  Unless you live on a country road with no cars around, this could be very dangerous if your dog got out.  This breed cannot be trusted off-leash for this same reason -- they'll take any chance they get to have a good sprint.
