How to paint wicker hamper?

I am going green by buying all used wicker baskets/hamper/lampshades to decorate my bedroom...the problem is that they are all in different shades, not matching well...

Any suggestions on how to paint wicker? I am clueless about this...

I solved this problem after having the same situation. If the hamper is rough and not smooth, take the hamper outside and paint the hamper with spray paint. Make sure that before you paint you put a covering (newspapers or a tarp) on the ground so the extra paint won't go on the ground(extra paint that misses the hamper and goes on the ground is impossible to get off)and then put the hamper on top of the covering. If the hamper seems to have a smooth wood surface sand the surface of the hamper with a semi-fine or a course enough sandpaper that will make the surface of the hamper rough enough for the paint to stay on the hamper. Painting on smooth surfaces will cause the paint to eventually flake off and this will cause a mess.
