  1. This is a good site .....

    http://www.allfamilycrests.com/

  2. Even if some Crisher somewhere HAS a coat of arms, it doesn't entitle all Crishers everywhere to use it.  It's just as gauche as if your great grandfather earned various military decorations and you wore them yourself.

  3. Crisher?

  4. There is no such thing as a family crest.  A crest is part of a coat of arms.  Coats of arms do not belong to surnames. They were and are granted to individual men and are passed down through the direct legitimate male line of descent.

Any one of us on this board can give you links to peddlers selling coats of arms and frequently they are valid. What isn't valid is they sell them like they belong to every one with a particular surname and they don't.

Actually there might have been more than one man named Crisher, not all necessarily related,  that were granted a coat of arms, all different. Some men named Crisher were never granted one.   No one peddler that sells them on the internet, at shopping malls, in airports, in magazines will have all of them. They don't need to in order to sell.

The only time they will have more than one is if more than one man with the same surname from different national origins were granted one, then they will have one of each and there might have been several of each.

If you feel your father or your husband is entitled to a coat of arms, you need to trace your family  back to the ancestor that was granted one and send your family tree to the College of Arms in London and see if they will grant you one.  It wouldn't be valid for you to  copy the one your original ancestor had that had been granted a coat of arms as that one is inherited only by the oldest son going down through the generations.  The other sons are entitled to have one granted with some differentiation.

See my links under sources.  One is from the British College of Arms(they grant coats of arms and are the ultimate authority) and the other from the most prestigious genealogical organization in the U.S., The National Genealogical Society.

If this is a school assignment, please print off the two links and give them to your teacher and feel free to print off what I am furnishing you.   I apologize if you aren't a student it just that we get a lot of students being asked to find their "family crest."
