  1. Most police are union labor, so their wages are determined by contract negotiations.

The pay varies greatly. The biggest variable is the tax base of the community.

Around here, you can start around $18 - $20 per hour. Larger cities can make much more.

  2. Not too much but they sometimes get cash under the table for favors. Are you asking about their salary report to the IRS or the cash under the table?

  3. It ranges widely.  In Washington DC, city police officers start at $53,000.  California Highway Patrol is $61,000, while others are more or less.  Police in my town make $66,000.  Keep in mind that they get substantial overtime, tuition assistance, and other bonuses.  A CHP officer can easily clear $90,000 per year if they are in shape and can speak conversational Spanish.

  4. depends, $30,000-$32,000 http://officer.com/ that'll answer all of your LEO questions

  5. Every department is different.  The starting pay where I work is $19.88 an hour.

  6. too much

  7. About 1 dozen donuts.  hehehe lol

  8. depends where you are sent

  9. In ma a city cop makes around 50,000 a year but some make up to a 100,00 because the get paid 40/hr for details and if it goes into over time it is 60/hr

  10. Depends upon the department.  The larger the city, the more taxes paid, the more the officers are paid.  In my agency starting pay is $36,000 per year with no experience, as a recruit in the academy.  Upon graduation you get a 10 percent pay increase, and top pay for an officer, no rank, is $66,000.

  11. to the person who answered "too much".. you obviously have never been around or known anyone in law enforcement. My boyfriend is a police officer in South Carolina. For the first three years of being employed he made 21,000-24,000 a year. After 6 years, he just started making 30,000 a year. I realize that compared to NY, SC has low pay salaries, but the majority of police officers are GROSSLY underpaid compared to the danger they are placed in every day and night. You won't think they are overpaid once you date one and you get a call that they were shot at 7 times in their vehicle and thier medical status is undetermined (he was alright..the guy was a bad shot). They place themselves in danger every day protecting unappreciative people like you.

  12. Sac County pays about 45,000 a year starting and up to 65,000

  13. The middle half of all police and sheriff's patrol officers earned between $35,600 and $59,880 a year in 2006. The lowest-paid 10 percent earned less than $27,310. The highest-paid 10 percent earned more than $72,450 a year.

The middle half of all police and detective supervisors earned between $53,900 and $83,940 a year in 2006. The lowest-paid 10 percent earned less than $41,260. The highest-paid 10 percent earned more than $104,410 a year.

The middle half of all detectives and criminal investigators earned between $43,920 and $76,350 a year in 2006. The lowest-paid 10 percent earned less than $34,480. The highest-paid 10 percent earned more than $92,590 a year.

Police get paid for overtime. Police also receive paid vacation, sick leave, and medical and life insurance. Often they get money for uniforms. Many retire at half-pay after 25 or 30 years of service.
