  1. It is a land conflict. It started because the British made a deal with the Jews while fighting the Ottoman Empire. The British simultaneously made a conflicting deal with the Palestinian Arabs. When it became necessary to honor one deal and betray the other, the Arabs became the losers whose land was stolen from them and given to Jews while the British soldiers stood guard to protect the Jews.

But in some little ways, the British also put rules on the Jews, so that the Jews could not murder all the Arabs in Palestine. So the Jews started becoming terrorists against the British, and this went on for many years, until finally the British gave up and left Palestine in the hands of the Jews to do whatever they wanted.

Israel was established. The Arab countries attacked. The United States replaced Britain as Israel's guardian protector, and the Arabs were defeated. The Jews started infiltrating the US government and stealing American military secrets. (You see the pattern? If you shake the right hand of the Jews, the left hand will stick a dagger in your back.) So now Israel is a semi-clandestine nuclear power who can get away with all kinds of terrorism.

  2. It was just a religious conflict with no reasonable reason to why this conflict started. Try checking Wikipedia.
