  1. Are they any worse than the situations of people living in this country without health care? I'd be curious about that. Hard to say much about socialized health care until you've tried it. Some people simply cannot afford it to pay for health care on their own. By the grace of God I CAN afford it, but that's not everyone's situation.

It's a shame that we live in a country that thinks health care is a privilege. Pretty sad.

  2. Yes, I've researched it, it sucks.

I don't feel like waiting weeks to see a doctor, or months to see a specialist. I don't like the idea of having to pull my own teeth. I don't need government deciding what is and is not covered or allowed. And I don't like the idea of health care costs increasing, as they always do, just like EVERYTHING else that government funds or assists in funding.

Oh yeah, I've watched Sicko, as usual Moore contradicts himself.

  3. Not for me and my family. I'll pay for my own.

  4. I live in Britain, London to be exact, and let me dispel some myths about socialised health care.

I do not wait for "weeks" to see my doctor, in fact once I called my surgery at 4pm hoping to make an appointment for the following morning, but I got to see my doctor within 2 hours! Yes, only two hours, I had an appointment at 6pm that very same evening.

The longest I actually had the ever wait for a doctor was a single week, but it is rare to wait for a doctor here in the UK for over a week.

My friend whose dad recently will undergo a heart bypass surgery in a few days, only new about his condition about a week ago, for which he attended a consultation briefing last Tuesday morning. This is I think great service, considering he never actually had to pay for anything. Yup, totally free, if he lived in the USA, I think he would be part of the 50 million Americans who do not have health care, cos his family is poor.

I personally have access to (I think) the best health service IN THE WORLD!!! I have my local GPs (which are my normal set of doctors) which I use for when I have a general query or problem. I have a "Walk in Centre", yes, a centre, where I simply walk into and get checkups for out of hours service, this service runs from morning to about 10pm!!! I then have my emergency services (which I have used many many many time, and have the scars to prove it!! which is great, because our nurse are really kind and helpful, and never fail to impress me at how well they do their job. Google earth Whitechapel, Royal London Hospital, you’ll see what I mean, or even better go to their website to see the expansion project.

I would also like to mention that the health service I have access to is a simple walking distance away from my house, my doctor is 15 minutes walk away, emergency hospital and walk in centres are 10-12 minutes’ walk away.

That hospital is expanding, and by 2012 will become one of the largest health facilities in the world. Ha, all for free (obviously not for free per se, but at least I don't have to foot the bill, as I'm poor and a student, however, when it comes to me working and paying tax, I would only pay 20-22% of my earning to central government, which is better than what you in the US pay, but correct me if I'm wrong there). This people, is socialised medicine and health care.

If you put your minds to it, and realise that health care is about improvement and satisfying the common folk, Britain has shown how good it can be. No doubt there are challenges, but these will be faced head on and dealt with as time progresses.

My advice for you guys in USA is, if only you concentrated on your health care like you concentrate on your military, then you'd probably have something good to boast about. No offence.

  5. Universal health care is provided in most developed countries and in many developing countries. According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the United States is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not provide universal health care.[1][2]

  6. Socialized healthcare is the way to go.  All western countries have it but the US, and their healthcare is better (for the vast majority) and cheaper.  People are afraid of the word 'socialized', but they don't want to get rid of police, firefighters, schools, or interstate highways, and that's all socialism, too.

Everyone but the rich (who already get the best care by paying for it) would benefit from socialized healthcare.  Opposition comes from the insurance industry and the ignorant.

    ps. Watch Sicko!

  7. Who cares.  Not HERE, not EVER.

  8. I would not want to have that kind of program here anything the government gets involved in eventually sinks.  I have a friend in England who tells me that they hate their medcare over there.  She is fairly well off so she really dosent have to worry, but if you are poor it is a nightmare, she has recounted several instances where people have to wait 6 mos for non emergencies and also another friends mother died while waiting for treatment.  I don't think we will want that here.  The well off will always have the resources to see a doctor.  But remember you never get something for nothing, and this proves true in this case also.

  9. We dont have in our country.
