  1. Resident physicians, in specialty training for the specialty of Emergency Medicine, provide a large portion of the medical care in university hospital ED's. They are supervised by ABEM board certified attending physicians. The chief resident (chosen by the university faculty) is often the best all-around resident, universally thought of as the most talented resident physician.

  2. We call our specialty "Emergency Medicine" and so we are "Emergency Medicine physicians, or specialists."

You have to go to medical school for 4 years after college. Then you need to do a residency in Emergency Medicine which is 3 or 4 years depending on what program you choose.

  3. Trauma

  4. Emergency Physicians.  They are awesome.  They have to make quick diagnoses, deal with impossible patients (and doctors of every other specialty) and know a little bit about everything.  Second best specialty out there (after anesthesia, of course!)  :)

The days of non-ER trained docs covering the ER should be long gone.

Here's a site for ER residents:

    http://www.emra.org/

It may have some some info about what the training entails.

  5. we do medicine, graduate from med school then do resindency in emergency medicine.

  6. Sean has it. FYI, the major organization for the specialty is the American College of Emergency Physicians, complete with its own website. They just got another $750 or so out of me for annual dues.

  7. graduate from med school and do your residency in ER med.
