Highlights from the final round of the Open Championship -Part 7
Tom Watson started the day at the 25th spot and capped the day at the 22nd, after carding a score of two-over-par on Sunday.  The 61-year-old was the oldest golfer in the field and despite that, he made the cut and remained out until
the last hole.
Watson teed off from the front and carded one birdie against three bogeys. On his way to the back, the veteran coupled a bogey with a birdie and wrapped the day with a score of 72. Although the score was nothing to boast about, the veteran was happy with
his performance.
While commenting on his game, Watson said, “Well, I played pretty well today. I can't complain too much. 72 on this golf course is not a bad score, and it just was not good enough to get close to the leaders this week and just maybe not the best times, either,
with the winds and rains yesterday. But it's a tough golf course. This is a golf course -- when you go around even par on this golf course, you have played a really good round of golf. 2-over is not too bad.”
A three-way tie was seen for the 25th spot on the leaderboard, which included Rory McIlroy, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Adam Scott.
McIlroy, who stepped into the tournament as the most sensationalized player, took a backdrop after the very first round. The Northern Irishman carded rounds of 71-69-74-73 to compile an aggregate of seven-over-par.
McIlroy teed off from the front in the final round and wrapped it with a score of two-over-par 37. He carded one double bogey, one bogey and one birdie in the first half. However, on his way to the clubhouse, the 22-year-old improved a bit and sealed the
day with a 36 after posting two bogeys and one birdie.
The US Open winner left the course with harsh remarks and didn’t speak to highly of the venue for the Open, the Royal St George’s Golf Club. He also added that he wasn’t expecting an improvement in his performance if the venue of the Open remained the same.
A gradual decline was seen in the performance of Adam Scott. The Aussie, who finished second in the Masters, kicked off with a 69, followed it with a 70 and 73, and wrapped it with a 75. The veteran could not earn a single birdie in the closing holes and
instead carded three bogeys and one double-bogey to seal the tournament on a bad note.
