Question:

Help with theft attempt on my property?

someone swiped the key to my ATV last night (which is my fault, I know, but nothing has ever happened to it since i got it, two years ago. we live in a small, small town and everyone is friendly, except for the two vandals that came up here the other day) and they stole the key and i'm afraid they'll come back tonight for the bike itself. We locked the gates around our property, put the bike in a shed with a garage door, and locked it too. Is there anything more that i can do to stop this attempted theft? I'm going tomorrow to get a new ignition system, but when it's installed, can they still use my old key to steal the bike?

  1. I would be careful. Get a secuity gard for the night, I have one every night. INVEST in a Security Camera System with a DVR its worth the money. It would help you in court and with the insurance company.

  2. You are correct for being proactive about getting the new ignition system.  I doubt the old key can be used, however, it will not stop them from hotwiring the ATV.  If I were you, remove the wheels.  It will be a lot harder for them to drive away.

  3. Second amendment give you the right to protect your life and your property use it.

  4. Yes there is. You can call your local police department and ask them for a couple drive by's tonight. We get that request all the time. I'll usually walk around the property if asked to do so as well.
