  1. My buddy has an HK USP .40, and its a nice gun, it fits my hand really well, and is a reliable gun.  Personally I don't care for Sigs, I think they are hideous, but most PD's around my anyways carry the 229, so it must be a good gun. My personal opinion is that both are WAY overpriced for what you get, I'd take a Ruger or my Glock 23 over either.  I also agree with Grizzly that the .40 is not the best choice, I'm happy with my G23, but I think the .40 is the most overhyped caliber there is, I wish i wouldve bought a 9mm or .45 ACP instead.  Those Walther P99's look like good guns too, you might also want to consider checking one of those out.  PS, If I were you, I'd go with a Glock 19, 15+1 in a nice compact package, reliable, easy to maintain, cheap mags.

  2. Instead of the underpowered .40S&W (Short & Weak), why not stick with the long proven .45ACP?

Especially if the pricetag is no object, the .45ACP H-K USP is about your best choice.

Rather than deal with amateur opinions, I have found that the professional evaluators, both commercial and independent, have given a slight edge to the H-K pistols, from tests run by evaluators from such sources as Guns & Ammo, American Handgunner, and Gun Tests magazines.

In such tests, the H-K USP models had fewer malfunctions and NO (0) failures when tested against, not only the Sig-Sauer, but Beretta, Springfield, and S&W models, as well.

I've run nearly 5,000 rounds through my H-K USP .45ACP, including Hydra-Shok, Cor-Bon, and several equivilent custom handloads, with 0 stoppages EVER, and it's tolerances haven't measureably changed since I first aquired it.

Know also that I carry my USP .45 in 'Condition One' (c0cked & locked) with a round chambered, just as safely as one can with the 1911.

The only negative factors I've dealt with carrying the USP, inherrent in the SOCOM, as well, is it's larger size, but I'm a larger guy and LIKE the more impressive size, and the limited availability of carry systems, but I carry concealed in my own unorthodox manner, anyway.

  3. If you like the Ruger platform ..they build a .40 too

for the money those XD's are okie dokie.
