The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has insisted that his team will be looking for all three points against Bayer Leverkusen this weekend
The German champions will take on second-placed Bayer Leverkusen in their next league clash on Sunday, February 3, at the BayArena. Both teams are fighting for the second spot and the Factory Squad is only a point ahead of the
Black Yellows at this stage of the season.
Ilkay Gundogan claimed that Leverkusen will certainly be a strong team to beat as they have been in sensational form this season. The midfielder believes that his side will have to put in a power-packed display if they want to
achieve all three points and is confident that Dortmund will win the clash.
The German international stressed that it is a vital game for both the sides and is keen on continuing the team’s good run since the resumption of the league after the winter break.
“Bayer are a strong opponent, against whom we'll have to produce a complete performance. There's no doubt it's a crucial match because both teams are currently battling for second place,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Gundogan added that the fixture will not determine the second place for any team as there are still a host of games to be played until the end of the season. The player claimed that 14 games can change anything and Sunday’s match
will not decide the rankings.
However, the midfielder needs to claim the three points this weekend to continue the good form of the team. He is confident that Dortmund have a very competitive side and wants the team to focus on winning the game.
"Despite that fact, I don't believe that this encounter will decide the outcome. There are 14 more games to come after that in which a lot can happen, we want to succeed in Leverkusen and build on our impressive form.  A healthy
dose of reality can't hurt, which is why we're focusing on clinching second place,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund are currently third on the Bundesliga rankings table with 36 points from the 19 games played. They are 12 points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.
