  1. i agree, birds rabbits and slugs are my main concern.  i think rats prefer rotting food to growing healthy fresh food.

good luck just get stuck in!

  2. Rats can be a problem in compost bins, particularly if you put cooked food there, but I'm certain they aren't interested in raw veg. Now rabbits is a different matter. We don't have any but our friends had problems and had to give up growing certain crops in the end.

Oh and I agree with the other two about no chemicals. Grow what works for you. If it doesn't work, or gets too attacked by beasties, then grow something else the next year.

  3. I grow a pretty big veggie garden and haven't ever seen any rats. Rabbits, Squirrels and birds are my biggest issue. You can always put up a  small wire fence around the garden. Or i plant marigolds around the whole garden edge. Most animals don't like them. I'm not sure why maybe its the smell or something. But I swear it works

  4. Jessie d is right on all counts. I don't use chemicals on my veg and they are usually alright. My motto is 'some for me - some for the birds'
