Question:

Game Console and Home Theater?

I got a question about hooking up your game consoles to a Home Theater.

I'm using a 42 Inch Vizio VX42L. I currently have my Wii and Xbox 360 hooked up into the Component, and I have my PS3 in HDMI. My concern is that when I hook up a receiver to my TV, using a optical cable, what do I do with my game consoles?

Do I hook them up to the receiver? if so, how will I access them on my television? I don't know how other TVs work but mine you have to access individual game channels (I.E My Xbox is in Component 1 and my Wii is in Component 2, my Ps3 is in HDMI 1) These channels are accessed by selecting them from the remote, or by the TV.

Do I just leave my consoles hooked up to my TV and use an optical cable just to get my surround sound? I hope I managed to make sense in this and that you can understand my concerns.

  1. I assume you don't have a compatible receiver so everything you did is correct. All video sources to TV ( selected from TV remote ) and all audio sources to receiver ( selected from receiver remote ).
