Francis Howell North boys’ volleyball team defeats Fort Zumwalt East team by 2-0 on Friday
The Francis Howell North boys’ volleyball team was looking forward to the match on Friday in order to put a stop to their two match-winning streak and show some improvement in their performance.
They were up against the Fort Zumwalt East team, whom they defeated by winning two back to back sets.
As opposed to the play of the Howell North, the Lions were not able to respond appropriately and lost each set with a significant number of points. The final set score at the end if the match reflected the superior performance that Howell North was able
to put up. The scoreboard displayed a Howell North victory at 25-19, 25-15.
The start of the first set of the game saw the Lions come out strong. They were able to give quite a challenge to the Howell North team. For the initial part of the set, both the teams were almost neck to neck with each other.
However, as the set progressed, the Lions were able to take the advantage with a 15-14 lead. Howell North did not let the advantage rest long with the Lions and grabbed a lead for themselves at 21-19. Once Howell North had the control, the Lions could not
do much to stop them from winning the first set of the game at 25-19.
After losing the first set, the Lions felt a decrease in their confidence which showed by the sort of performance they were able to put up in the second set of the match. However, like the first set, the Lions were able to stay in the competition early on.
The Knights took the lead at 3-2, after which, they never gave the advantage away to the Lions.
The Lions continued to struggle and close in the gap until the middle of the set but the Knights remained too strong for them. By raining down relentless kills on the Lions, the Knights kept the pressure on their opponents all through.
As a result, Howell North was able to seal the deal on the Lions by winning the second and final set of the game t 25-15.
The overall season record of the Lions show no wins at all while they have registered a disappointingly huge amount of 11 defeats. In contrast to this, the Knights have been able to tally 6 wins at the expense of suffering two losses.
“They were both good teams that we'd played and we lacked focus in those matches,” Howell North senior outside hitter Ethan Bohnert said, referring to the two matches that his team had lost before playing against the Lions. “When we got down, we started
yelling at each other. We knew that today, we couldn't take this for granted. We have to earn every win. I think we did that today.”
