Former PCB chiefs criticise http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sahibzada-Mohammad-Shahid-Khan-Afridi-c87933 for his childish behavior
Former chairmen of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Lt General Tauqir Zia and Shaharyar Khan, have slammed Shahid Afridi for his childish behaviour after being sacked as the captain of Pakistan’s limited-over’s team.
PCB removed Afridi from captaincy after his statements against the team’s management and coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193. The former captain blamed the management to be interfering in his job.
He was named in the squad for the recently concluded two-match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 but refused to join the team because of his father’s illness.
However, he announced on Monday that he will no longer play international cricket in the regime of the present cricket board.
Zia said that the players’ power has to be demolished at any cost and Afridi should have accepted the decision with a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Richard-Griffith-c41953 heart. He said that Afridi tried to gain the sympathy of the cricket fans by taking this emotional step which does not make any sense.
He said, "You can't have such a situation where players want to dictate terms. If he was removed as captain he was selected as a player and if he had any problems he should have discussed it with the board. Players can't be allowed to violate discipline and the code. I don't think there was any justification for Afridi's decision to retire and criticize the board in such a harsh manner".
Another former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaharyar-Mohammad-Khan-c89328, agreed with Zia’s views and hopes that the matter will be solved sooner rather than later.
Shaharyar Khan said that Afridi has had problems with discipline since a long time and does not think http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 before giving statements in media.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 had a soft corner for Afridi because he thinks that the all-rounder was doing a good job as captain of the limited-over’s squad.
“I just hope it is sorted out soon. But the fact is that Afridi has always been a bit of a loose cannon in the media. But he was doing well as captain so the board should have given him more chances as captain", Khan said.
