First steps for a new photographer?

hi im a new photographer. i have a nikon d60 with 18-55 lenz. (standard).. i know mechanism of F and shutter. what is the first steps.. how can i learn more and take better photos. i use Manual always and try to set all the options by myself. tnx and what do i need more ? i mean accessories and ...

Try out all the functions and keep notes on the results.

I would suggest you look at your school, parks and rec department, community colleges and such for classes. There may also be seminars that come to your area or are close enough to go to. Join the local photo club. Many have evaluation nights where you bring your photos and they critique them so you can get better. Look for photography contests. Read the magazines and books. You can find many in the library if funds are short. Talk to local photographers that may hire you as an assistant or mentor you

Read as much about photography as you can. Go to the library and check out some books about photography. I would recommend these books:

"The Digital Photography Book" by Scott Kelby

"The Digital Photography Book Volume 2" by Scott Kelby

Any of the books written by Nick Kelsh

"The Kodak Most Basic Book of Digital Nature Photography" by Russell Graves

"Understanding Digital Photography" by Bryan Peterson

I would also put your pictures up on a site like http://flickr.com so that you can get advice and criticism to make your photos better. Also if you post some of your pictures in a question on this site in the photography section people can give you criticism but be careful because sometimes people can be mean. Also just search google for photography tips and tricks and read the articles and that can be helpful too!!
