Ferrari wants to sign Sebastian Vettel for 2012 season
The 2010 Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel has recently revealed that he dreams of driving for Ferrari one day, and believes that it might just be a matter time before that happens. The young German won his first Formula One title this year, and became
the youngest champion in the history of the sport after an outstanding performance this year.
Sebastian was able to score five wins, and an impressive 15 pole positions in order to score 256 points in the drivers’ standings. His main rival, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, was unable to retain his championship lead at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. As
a result the Spaniard finished just four points behind Vettel in the drivers’ standings.
However Red Bull Racing team revealed that they will keep both Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel for another year. Considering they also have Adrian Newey on their side, they are definitely going to be one of the top running teams once again in the 2011 Formula
One season.
Team Red Bull was able to secure its first constructors’ and drivers’ title this year, and it was all down to the fact that both drivers worked extremely hard and fought until the very final race of the season.
Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo has responded to Vettel’s comments by saying that his team is also interested in the young German, and would love to sign him some day. This means that Ferrari could end up with two World Champions in their team, similar
to line-up at McLaren.
Sebastian’s contract with Red Bull runs through until the end of 2011, with a possible extension to 2012. Therefore, it seems that the young German might not have to wait too long to fulfill his dream of driving for the Italian team.
“Sebastian is fast, intelligent and young. He will drive a red car sooner or later,” the Ferrari president told the media.
Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz also told the media about Sebastian’s interest in Ferrari, but hopes to make it difficult for the 2010 champion to leave Red Bull, as the team hopes to become even bigger and better next season. It will be interesting to
see what Red Bull does next year because if they are unable to outperform their rivals, they will have to let go of the youngest champion in the history of the sport.
