Just before the end of the second half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 had a decent chance to score. Young played on Cole, who crossed the ball to Carroll. The towering striker nodded the ball back, but Rooney just couldn’t connect with the bicycle kick that time around.
With both the sides being level at the end of the second half, the match went into extra time, with a winner yet to be decided.
In the 102nd minute, Italy had yet another chance to find the back of the net. Diamanti went on to mis-hit a cross, but his effort went on to come off the post. Hart could do very little to stop the ball, had it been on target, which is why the keeper was seen shedding a sigh of relief after the ball came off the wood work.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 continued to do all the talking as they came close in the 114th minute. Blazaretti went on to play a ball into the area and found Diamanti with his pass. However, the Italian couldn’t connect with the ball and the chance went begging.
The Italians had thought they had won the match in the 115th minute, as Nocerino went on to tap the ball into the back of the net via his head. Unfortunately for them, the linesman blew for an offside and the goal was disallowed.
With neither team scoring in the added time, the match then went on to head into a penalty shoot out.
Balotelli and Gerrard scored with their first two efforts, before Montolivo went on to send his effort wide of the mark.
Soon after, Rooney and Pirlo went on to connect with their efforts, as they found the back of the net with ease.
Young went on to miss his chance, but Nocerino made no mistake with his stutter run up and calmly slotted his effort past Hart.
Cole stepped up to take the next England kick, but his shot was low and rather tame, as Buffon dove to make a comfortable save.
Diamanti then went on to take the crucial penalty which could have decided the game and after sending his effort crashing into the back of the net, following Hart diving the wrong way, he helped Italy head on into the semi finals.
