English Premier League News: Arsenal players who may struggle during this season
The coming season could very well be one of the toughest seasons in Arsenal’s history. Arsenal has now gone a total of five years without winning a single trophy. This is the longest dry spell the club has ever faced without winning any silverware. With teams like Tottenham and Manchester City looking to move into the top four, Arsenal might soon face a very tough challenge to stay in the prestigious spot. However Arsenal could silence all their critics if they manage to have a solid season, that isn’t plagued with injuries or inconsistent performances by players. Arsenal posses some key players amongst their ranks, but some of those key players will most likely start to feel the pressure and would eventually start to struggle at the Emirates. Here is a look at some of those players who might find it hard to maintain their form this coming season.
When the Russian, Andrei Arshavin arrived at the Emirates, he made an immediate impact. He managed to score four goals in a single game against Liverpool which earned him an instant hero status at the club. Last season, he was however less successful as compared to his first season. Andrei scored twelve goals but seemed too tired at times. The player is going to be thirty soon and may find it hard to keep up with the fast paced, hard tackling English league. The Russian also tends to say things to the press without thinking them through which could cause to be a serious bother to Arsene Wenger. If the winger fails to perform as is expected of him, then Wenger shouldn’t think twice before offloading him.
Arguably the best player on the Arsenal squad in the 2008/2009 season was Robin Van Persie. But the player happened to have an injury stricken season in 2009/2010 and failed to continue his brilliant form in the last two seasons. The Dutch striker was the most missed player at Arsenal this past season. He was missing from November all the way to March. When he managed to return in March, Persie reminded all the fans just why he was one of the best players on the squad. However, the player has been injured in the past on a constant basis. Despite that, Persie is still one of the most lethal strikers out there, but he seems to have a lot of disappointing games as well. He was hugely invisible throughout the Dutch World Cup campaign. This could only mean that his best is now in his past. Considering he is going to now constantly fear getting injured, the Dutch player will not be playing to his full potential which could only mean that other players should be given a chance instead. With players like Marouane Chamakh coming into the club, it could only mean that Van Persie is on a slope that is slowly heading downwards.
Almost every Arsenal related news that took place this summer was related to Cesc Fabregas. There were constant rumours of the player going to Barcelona then deciding to stay. The Spanish international even admitted that he wished to return to Spain and play for Barcelona some day. They reports and rumours only indicate that the player doesn’t feel like he belongs to the club any more. Any player that feels out of position at a club would definitely fail to perform as good as he normally would. The uncertainty that his mind is currently going through could manage to find its way onto the pitch which could only end in disaster for the player and the club.
