  1. Martin Johnson said on Tuesday that he was surprised that more people did not fail drug tests given the fine margins involved in taking supplements to boost performance. The England manager also insisted that he had faith in the procedures in place for his own squad but implicitly suggested that he could sympathies with the plight of Saturday's opponents at Twickenham, South Africa, who have sent two players home after a failed drug test following the match against Ireland a fortnight ago. "It's amazing that there are not more," said Johnson, reaching to touch the wooden chair on which he was sitting at England's training base. "You've got to be very careful. It's very easy for it to happen. The tests can trace minuscule amounts. The dangers of cross-contamination were there even when I played, the knowledge that a machine used by a manufacturer one day might be used to manufacture something else the next day."
