England v Netherlands: Expert analysis of the match - ICC World Cup 2011
England defeated Netherlands by six wickets in their opening game of the ICC World Cup 2011 at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vidarbha-c860 Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur. It was expected that the English team would run away with the show but that was not the case as the Dutch stretched them to the limits but the English team’s experience came to their rescue at the later stages of the match. However the Dutch team should be very happy with their performance as they ran one of the top teams of world cricket so close.
Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss would have to do some serious work with their bowling and fielding if they have any realistic chance of doing well in the mega event. The biggest disappointment came in shape of James Anderson who gave away 72 runs in his 10 overs. He is the spearhead of the English bowlng attack and has played a huge part in his team's success over the years. Anderson is usually rated as dangerous in bowling friendly conditions but he would have to deliver the goods on the flat tracks of sub-continent if he is to be remembered as a world class operator.
Stuart Broad made a comeback in this World Cup after an injury that he sustained during the Ashes 2010-11 and took a couple of five wicket hauls in the warm up fixtures, but he was also disappointing today against the minnows.
One of world’s finest off-spinner Graeme Swann showed his class once again and gave away only 35 runs in his 10 overs and took a couple of wickets as well on a flat track. England did not play Michael Yardy, which was quite a surprising exclusion as he could have been very handy with both bat and ball on a track like Nagpur.
On the other side of the coin, Netherlands have rung the alarm bells for all the other teams in group ‘B’. Apart from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cannot afford to take them lightly after Netherland’s performance against England.
Ryan ten Doeschate has made a huge impression in his very first match of the ICC World Cup 2011 as he shined with both bat and ball but his ton under pressure would be remembered for a long time in international cricket. He played his shots all around the ground and proved on a big stage that he is a world class batsman. His experience in the domestic cricket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, England and South Africa was quite evident during his knock.
He was rightly named as the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. He said at the presentation ceremony that, "It was pretty special for me. I told my team-mates we're put out a really good performance here on the biggest stage. There wasn't too much planning but we assessed as we went along. I haven't set personal goals for the World Cup but I want us to carry on playing great cricket."
The only concern for the Dutch seems to be in their bowling department which lacks fire power. That is the reason why English batsmen did not face too much trouble while chasing a huge target.
