England U19 to play South Africa U19 in first ODI
South Africa Under 19 side will battle England Under 19 in the first One- Day International of their tour of England, at Edgbaston, Birmingham, tomorrow, July 16, 2011.
Both sides will contest 7 One-Day international with the last one being played at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury on 30th of this month.
For the host, they will be lead by Kent All rounder, Adam Ball, who has been retained as the skipper, where he earlier captained the side against Sri Lanka.
Ball is an explosive left-arm bowler, who was named the Young Player of the Year in 2009.
England under 19 has also handed another left-armer, Reece Topley with a call up, after some impressing showings for his county side Essex. A 6ft 7 inch tall bowler is an emerging player of the Graham Gooch Cricket Academy and recently signed a new one year-
contract with the domestic outfit.
As for their counterparts, they will be captained by Keaton Jennings, who led the side to comfortable victories against the Zimbabwe Under 19 side in January this year.
Apart from Jennings, they will also rely on the heroics of left-hander, Quinton de Kock, who produced some outclass performances against Zimbabwe U19 side earlier, earning him the man of the series title.
Both sides will be hoping to perform well ahead of the Under 19 World Cup which will take place in Australia next year.
It will be good platform for the youth of both countries to contest in a close battle, hoping that their performances will eventually earn them an International call.
Many of the international stars of both sides have been the product of the Youth cricket teams.
For England under19, formerly known as England Young Cricketers, a host of stars like Andrew Flint off, Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan have all become international greats, having the honor of captaining their national side.
As for South African U 19’s, players such as the current captain, AB de Villiers, along with Mark Boucher and Makhaya Ntini have all gone and represented their national side, earning success at the highest level.
